Big Sur Timber Fire Swells to Nearly 4,000 Acres, Threatens 350 Structures
The New York Post reported that the Timber Fire in Big Sur had burned about 3,775 acres, was only 5% contained and threatened roughly 350 homes and tourist facilities as firefighters continued suppression efforts. KSBW reported that on 10 August the fire had expanded to 800 acres, remained 5% contained and prompted evacuation orders for two zones in Big Sur. The agency later noted the blaze grew to 2,000 acres, still at 5% containment, with evacuation orders for several zones near Highway 1 and a threat to 259 structures.
The New York Times said the fast-moving blaze in the Los Padres National Forest burned over 1,700 acres, forced evacuations and road closures along the Big Sur coast. The Guardian added that the fire forced evacuations of major Big Sur attractions and the closure of a section of Highway 1.
