Yabloko barred from ballot, youth protest outside Moscow Supreme Court
Hundreds of teenage supporters of the anti-war Yabloko party gathered outside the Moscow Supreme Court on 10 August, after the court had barred the party from the State Duma ballot. The crowd waited while the ruling was read and then left the courthouse quietly, appearing deflated.
The court’s decision on 6 August came after a lawsuit alleging the party’s alleged extremist links and financial violations, which a Moscow court said justified the ban. Earlier, Yabloko deputy head Kirill Rumyantsev said he and his family had received death threats as he remained a candidate in the upcoming September election.
