Michele Tafoya won the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota and will face Democratic Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan in the November election.
Michele Tafoya, a former television sports reporter, was projected by CBS News to have won the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota. She will compete against Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, who secured the Democratic nomination, in the November general election.
Tafoya, who announced her candidacy in January, described the state as facing a fiscal and public-safety crisis. Her campaign website emphasizes efforts to combat alleged election fraud, support law-enforcement, reduce taxes and costs for middle-class families, and restore what she calls “courage and common sense.”
"Minnesotans are beaten down by this fraud," Tafoya said after the projection, adding that billions of dollars were allegedly stolen from taxpayers and that test scores were falling while crime was rising.
She also pledged to represent all Minnesotans and to advocate for their interests in the Senate.
Tafoya prevailed over a crowded field that included former Navy SEAL Adam Schwarze, who had received the state party’s endorsement at its May convention. No Republican has been elected to the U.S. Senate from Minnesota since 2002.
