49ers coach Kyle Shanahan cleared to coach preseason opener
Head coach Kyle Shanahan says he has largely recovered from a serious car accident and will lead San Francisco in Thursday's preseason game against the Tennessee Titans.
San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan, who was injured in a serious car accident nearly a month ago, said he is mostly recovered and will coach the team’s preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans on Thursday. > "I’m doing real good. My body feels good. I’ve just got to get this annoying cast off," Shanahan said, gesturing at his left hand. > "My ribs feel good, except when I sneeze. And my head feels so much better. Concussions do linger a little bit, the only things I deal with now are headaches and fatigue. That’s why I’m not always on the exact same routine but pretty close." He noted that while assistant head coach Chris Foerster has taken on some duties, Shanahan has been reviewing extensive film and believes he is handling the essential responsibilities. > "As far as the important stuff, I feel it’s about 100 percent. I haven’t missed anything of film. I watch every single play with the coaches, with the players." Shanahan added that early concussion symptoms made him sensitive to noise, but he now feels ready for the sounds of an NFL game and prepared to resume his duties.
