Two pilots killed in Utah firefighting helicopter crash
Officials said a Sikorsky Skycrane operated by Helicopter Transport Services crashed while fighting a fire in Fishlake National Forest, Utah, on August 7, killing both pilots. Reports indicated the Widemouth 2 blaze was about 24% contained at the time.
Earlier reports described the same S-64 helicopter going down near Richfield, Utah, as it battled the Widemouth 2 wildfire, with rescue crews unable to reach the site because of active fire conditions. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board opened investigations into the cause of the crash.
