Trump signs order limiting birthright citizenship for select children
President Donald Trump signed an executive order at the White House that would strip U. S. citizenship from a narrow set of children whose parents are alleged to have ties to terrorist groups, serve as foreign diplomats, or engage in birth-tourism, a step critics say clashes with a recent Supreme Court ruling.
The order follows a series of immigration actions announced earlier in August, when Trump unveiled two executive measures aimed at tightening birthright citizenship and curbing birth-tourism. Those earlier actions expanded restrictions on automatic citizenship for children of certain non-citizen parents and were issued after a Supreme Court rebuff of his prior attempt to end birthright citizenship.
