Houthis claim drone strike on Saudi refinery and attack on Mokha port
The Iran-backed Houthi movement said it launched drones and missiles at the Saudi Aramco refinery in Jazan and at the Red Sea port of Mocha on 9 August, and Saudi officials confirmed a fire at the refinery but reported no casualties. The attacks followed a series of strikes that began on 6 August, when the Houthis hit military camps in Hadramout and Marib, killing at least 30 Yemeni government soldiers and wounding 15, according to Yemeni officials. A day later they fired projectiles into Saudi Arabia's Najran border area, injuring 11 civilians, and the next day Saudi military reported more than a dozen civilian injuries, including a child, in Najran.
Subsequent missile and drone raids on 8 August killed at least 58 Yemeni troops and injured 11 civilians in Najran, prompting Saudi officials to warn of further coordinated attacks on civilian infrastructure. The same day the Houthis struck displacement camps and residential neighborhoods in Marib, killing two and wounding 14, while the United Nations cautioned that Yemen was edging toward a broader war.
