Candida auris infections surge across U.S., Arizona sees sharp rise
Arizona health officials reported a surge in drug-resistant Candida auris infections in Pima County, bringing the total number of U. S. states with confirmed cases to 27, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC also said more than 4,200 infections were confirmed nationwide last year and that case numbers rose further in 2026. Earlier reports documented 13 cases in Washington state, over 500 infections in Michigan hospitals, and more than 3,400 cases across 26 states. Texas accounted for the largest share with over 700 cases, and in July the agency had recorded 3,130 cases in 23 states.
