German bus driver’s drone interception at Leipzig airport sparks NATO security review
German officials said the bus driver’s interception of an explosive-laden drone at Leipzig/Halle Airport on 3 August prompted a NATO security review, a development reported on 12 August. Leipzig/Halle Airport police discovered the drone near the south runway, removed its detonator and closed the runways for about two hours before reopening the north runway.
A second unidentified object struck a Ukrainian cargo aircraft, forcing the plane to divert to Hannover Airport, where it landed with minor damage. Police also deployed an anti-explosives robot during the operation.
