Detroit Lions assess standout performers and setbacks after two weeks of camp
Coach Dan Campbell said the Detroit Lions have identified both standout performers and players lagging behind expectations after two weeks of training camp in Detroit on August 12. Earlier in the camp, Pride Of Detroit highlighted Alim McNeill, Nick Whiteside, Jabari Small, Damone Clark and Sam LaPorta for notable performances on Day 6, and noted a surge by the defensive line and extra starter reps for left guard Christian Mahogany. The Detroit News reported that second-year receiver Dominic Lovett impressed coaches after an injury opened a roster spot.
Pride Of Detroit analysts later assessed which players exceeded or fell short of preseason expectations, and praised undrafted linebacker Erick Hunter for an interception and strong special-teams play during a padded scrimmage. On Day 9, the Lions’ own release said running back Jahmyr Gibbs made several key plays while competition continued for nickel cornerback, left guard, tight end and right tackle positions.
