Makhachev to defend welterweight title against Garry at UFC 330
UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev will face challenger Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 on Aug. 15, marking Makhachev's first defense in the division.
Islam Makhachev is set to make his welterweight title defense against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 on Aug. 15. The bout was previewed Tuesday night in Philadelphia, where the fighters met in front of the city’s Rocky statue. Official measurements list Garry as five inches taller than the 170-pound champion.
Makhachev earned the belt after defeating Jack Della Maddalena, moving up from a successful lightweight career. Garry enters the fight after recent victories over Carlos Prates and Belal Muhammad.
UFC 330 will be held at the Xfinity Mobile Arena. The co-main event features strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern defending her title against fellow submission specialist Gillian Robertson, who secured the No. 1 contender spot with five consecutive wins since 2024.
