Phillies acquire Luis Arraez and reliever Caleb Kilian from Giants
Philadelphia traded for outfielder Luis Arraez and right-handed reliever Caleb Kilian, sending pitcher Ramon Marquez, prospect No. 4 and reliever Marty Gair to San Francisco.
Philadelphia completed a trade with the San Francisco Giants, acquiring left-handed infielder Luis Arraez and right-handed reliever Caleb Kilian. In return, the Giants will receive pitcher Ramon Marquez, the Phillies’ No. 4 prospect and reliever Marty Gair, according to a source familiar with the deal.
Arraez, a three-time All-Star, is batting .324 this season with four home runs, 47 RBIs and an .801 OPS. He has a .315 average against left-handed pitching and has struck out only 21 times. The Phillies plan to use him at second base, shift Bryson Stott to third, and move Bryce Harper to right field.
Arraez is on a one-year contract worth $12 million and will become a free agent after the season unless the Phillies extend his deal. The 29-year-old Venezuelan, who debuted in 2019, has a career .318 average, 40 home runs and 348 RBIs.
The Phillies have also added left-handed reliever Brooks Raley and continue to explore options for an additional veteran starter.
