Microsoft pushes Windows 11 memory efficiency for 8 GB PCs amid Apple competition
Microsoft in Redmond, Washington, said that competition from Apple’s low-priced MacBook Neo prompted the company to accelerate efforts to improve Windows 11’s memory efficiency on PCs equipped with 8 GB of RAM, analyst Jitesh Ubrani reported. The firm had earlier announced plans to cut Windows 11’s memory footprint for low-end PCs, aiming to give users more control over AI features and UI elements.
It subsequently removed its prior guidance recommending 32 GB of RAM for power users and refocused on 8 GB optimization. Microsoft also outlined a series of upcoming tweaks intended to reduce idle memory usage on 8 GB systems, with broader updates slated for completion by the end of 2026.
