Defense Challenges Psychiatrist’s Treatment of Mother Accused of Killing Three Children
In Duxbury, Massachusetts, defense attorneys cross-examined psychiatrist Dr. Jennifer Tufts about her treatment of Lindsay Clancy, arguing that the defendant received only limited video-based care and an insufficient medication regimen, as prosecutors continued to focus on the alleged killings. Earlier in the trial, jurors toured the family home where the children were killed, and prosecutors presented autopsy photographs, the mother’s handwritten journal, and forensic toxicology reports showing non-toxic levels of psychiatric drugs.
Testimony from family members, a former nanny, a grandfather, and medical examiners highlighted Clancy’s postpartum anxiety, insomnia and claims of psychosis, while both sides referenced a five-day psychiatric hospital stay weeks before the deaths. The prosecution has maintained that the killings were intentional, whereas the defense has sought expert witnesses to support a postpartum psychosis defense.
