Rays acquire Freddy Peralta from Mets for three prospects
The Tampa Bay Rays completed a trade on August 2, acquiring right-hander Freddy Peralta from the New York Mets in exchange for infielder Émilien Pitre, outfielder Aidan Smith and right-hander Gary Gill Hill, a move analysts said gives the Rays a low-cost pitching option while providing the Mets with several promising minor-league players. The deal followed earlier speculation that the Mets were considering moving Peralta. In early July, Amazin' Avenue reported that New York had been negotiating with the Chicago White Sox, with prospects George Wolkow and Boston Smith mentioned as possible return pieces.
Days later, MLB. com noted that the Mets removed Peralta from his scheduled start on the before the trade deadline amid those trade talks.
