Todd Blanche confirmed as U.S. attorney general by narrow Senate vote
The Senate in Washington, D. C. confirmed Todd Blanche as attorney general on 6 August, approving his nomination by a 50-49 vote after Republican Senator Bill Cassidy provided the decisive vote.
Earlier, Blanche, serving as acting attorney general, rescinded a proposed $1. 8 billion anti-weaponization fund tied to a settlement that granted President Donald Trump limited audit immunity, satisfying written assurances demanded by Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis. The dispute began when Senators Cornyn and Tillis blocked the nomination over concerns that the settlement would create a permanent tax-immunity fund for Trump allies; President Trump threatened to withdraw the nomination and to revive the fund if the Senate did not confirm Blanche.
