Jahmyr Gibbs signs record three-year extension with Detroit Lions
Running back Jahmyr Gibbs signed a three-year, $67. 5 million extension with the Detroit Lions on July 29, 2026, making him the league’s highest-paid running back, NBC Sports reported. Earlier in training camp Gibbs missed the opening practice and then five consecutive sessions, sparking speculation that he was holding out for a new deal, Pride Of Detroit noted. Coach Dan Campbell said the team was not concerned about the hold-in and that negotiations would not affect other players, Pride Of Detroit reported.
General manager Brad Holmes said talks were ongoing but gave no timeline, Pride Of Detroit added. ESPN said Bijan Robinson’s contract with the Falcons would not impact Gibbs’s negotiations. In early August Gibbs returned to drills, taking part in a practice while contract discussions continued, Pride Of Detroit said.
