Video shows Glen Hansard's last Dublin pub performance hours before fatal crash
A recording of Glen Hansard's final set at The Wren’s Nest in Dublin has been released, capturing the musician moments before he died in a motorcycle accident early Wednesday.
A video of Glen Hansard's final performance at The Wren’s Nest pub in Chapelizod, Dublin, has been released. The footage, recorded at 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, shows the 56-year-old singer-songwriter playing guitar and singing for a quiet audience during the venue’s weekly traditional music session.
Hansard left the pub at closing time and, according to police, was involved in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in the Strawberry Beds area of Dublin at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pub issued a statement saying it had “always been a privilege” to host Hansard and praised his talent and generosity. His management confirmed the death, noting his roles as frontman of The Frames, member of The Swell Season and Oscar-winning star of the film Once.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Glen Hansard," a spokesperson for the venue said.
Public figures including Bono, Bruce Springsteen, Warren Ellis and Ireland’s president have expressed condolences. Hansard’s career began with street busking in Dublin, and he remained a regular presence in the city’s pub music scene throughout his life.
