Commanders' Day 4 camp highlights safety Nick Cross among five standouts
Washington held its fourth training-camp practice with fans in attendance, and safety Nick Cross was singled out as a top performer.
Washington held the fourth day of its 2026 training camp on Saturday, marking the first session that allowed fans onto the field. Head coach Dan Quinn said the practice would be the final one before players don pads on Monday, indicating an increase in intensity for the upcoming weeks.
The team showed balanced play on both sides of the ball, with the offense improving its timing and wide receivers creating more separation, while the defense continued to dominate early-season drills. Among the participants, safety Nick Cross received particular praise for his activity across the field.
"Cross was everywhere on the field and made his presence felt," observers reported.
Acquired as a free-agent addition this offseason, Cross is expected to contribute to Daronte Jones' defensive scheme. Coaches noted his strength against the run, though they indicated he still needs to refine his coverage skills. The staff anticipates that continued work with the defensive unit will help him develop into a more complete safety ahead of the regular season.
