Spider-Man: Brand New Day Sets New Preview Revenue Record with $72 Million
Tom Holland's latest Spider-Man film earned $72 million in preview screenings, surpassing the previous record held by Avengers: Endgame.
Tom Holland's new Spider-Man movie, "Brand New Day," generated $72 million from preview showings, including early-access screenings on Wednesday, establishing the highest preview total for any film. The prior benchmark was set by "Avengers: Endgame," which earned $60 million in Thursday previews.
Industry analysts project the opening weekend for "Brand New Day" to fall between $260 million and $280 million, which would rank it as the second-largest debut after "Endgame" and ahead of "Spider-Man: No Way Home." Sony has offered a more conservative estimate of $190 million to $195 million for the first weekend.
Only nine movies have ever opened with more than $200 million domestically, with "Avengers: Endgame" exceeding $300 million. The other titles in that group include "Spider-Man: No Way Home," "Avengers: Infinity War," the two recent "Star Wars" installments, "Deadpool & Wolverine," "Jurassic World," "The Avengers" and "Black Panther."
Internationally, "Brand New Day" is expected to add $275 million to $300 million to its global total, potentially surpassing early forecasts. Holland's previous solo Spider-Man outing earned $327 million overseas and $587 million worldwide, making it the third-best global opening on record.
The film takes place four years after the events of "No Way Home," with Peter Parker operating alone and confronting a new antagonist portrayed by Sadie Sink. Holland and Zendaya, who recently appeared together in the blockbuster "The Odyssey," are expected to draw significant audience interest.
