FCC expands Covered List to ban foreign robot vacuums

FCC expands Covered List to ban foreign robot vacuums

The Federal Communications Commission placed foreign-made robotic vacuum cleaners on its Covered List, halting new FCC authorizations, on 30 July in Washington, DC. The decision builds on a series of restrictions announced earlier in July. On 27 July the FCC added foreign power inverters and advanced robots to the Covered List, citing cybersecurity and supply-chain risks.

The Trump administration had also announced a ban on imports of Chinese-made humanoid and quadruped robots, and the FCC later extended the ban to include robot vacuums and lawn mowers. Chinese officials warned that the measures could trigger retaliatory steps.
