Seattle police chief briefs investigators on Bite of Seattle shooting
Interim Seattle police chief Andre Sayles briefed investigators on the Bite of Seattle mass shooting, saying the department will provide public updates as the investigation proceeds. The shooting occurred on July 26, 2026 at the Bite of Seattle food festival in Seattle Center, leaving three people dead and four injured, including a toddler. Seattle police said a 15-year-old and a 19-year-old suspect were detained, a Polymer80 ghost gun and a modified Glock were recovered, and later ballistic testing showed the fatal bullets were not fired from the teen’s ghost gun.
King County prosecutors said they are preparing first-degree assault charges against the 15-year-old. Mayor Katie Wilson apologized for a multi-hour delay in releasing basic information, and Governor Bob Ferguson’s office said it had no role in the timing of the police briefing.
