Norris wins Hungarian GP as Red Bull second, Ferrari and Mercedes struggle
McLaren driver Lando Norris won the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen finishing second, while Ferrari, Mercedes and several other teams dealt with setbacks during the weekend. Charles Leclerc set the fastest time in the opening practice, BBC reported, and Lance Stroll retired after a rear-suspension failure on the newly upgraded Aston Martin. A red-flag in the second practice was caused by a crash from Colapinto, and Aston Martin said the early data on its upgraded AMR26 looked promising, Autosport noted.
Norris secured pole position after a strong qualifying session, during which Verstappen spun and Lewis Hamilton qualified second, reports said. Grid penalties later reshuffled the front row, moving Hamilton to fifth, racingnews365 reported. Team principal Andrea Stella described the victory as a pleasant surprise, BBC quoted.
