Senate committee advances Erica Schwartz's CDC director nomination
According to AP News, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee voted on 30 July to advance Dr. Erica Schwartz's nomination as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, saying she can maintain scientific standards. Senator Bill Cassidy had earlier criticized the CDC website for linking vaccines to autism, calling the statements misleading and a potential cause of vaccine hesitancy.
He later said a revised disclaimer on the agency's site convinced him to support Schwartz's confirmation, noting she would report to Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
