Carolina Panthers put Nic Scourton on IR and add linebacker Cam Gill

Summary

The Panthers placed OLB Nic Scourton on season-ending injured reserve after a torn ACL and signed former UFL defensive standout Cam Gill to bolster their linebacker group.

Carolina Panthers linebacker Nic Scourton was moved to injured reserve on Friday after sustaining a torn anterior cruciate ligament during Thursday’s practice, ending his season.

"Scourton suffered a torn ACL in Thursday's practice," reported NFL Network analysts.

The team also signed former Louisville Kings defensive player Cam Gill, who appeared in ten games for the Panthers last season and was named the UFL Defensive Player of the Year. Gill’s addition adds depth to the Panthers’ outside linebacker rotation.

Guard Robert Hunt missed Friday’s practice because of back tightness, and cornerback Mike Jackson sat out the same session with a similar issue, both noted by head coach Dave Canales.

In other roster moves, the Panthers released guard Joshua Gray. Linebacker Brenden Schooler will begin training camp on the active/non-football injury list, according to head coach Mike Vrabel, while rookie linebacker Gabe Jacas has not reported to camp and remains unsigned. Cornerback Christian Gonzalez reported to camp as contract negotiations continue.
