Senate blocks resolution to limit President Trump's war powers in Iran conflict
The U. S. Senate voted 49-50 to defeat a resolution that would have compelled President Donald Trump to pull U. S.
forces out of the ongoing Iran conflict without further congressional authorization, as hostilities continued. Earlier, the House of Representatives had narrowly passed a non-binding war-powers resolution, voting 214-208 with four Republicans joining Democrats, urging the president to end military operations against Iran. The measure marked the first congressional attempt to curb the president’s authority since the cease-fire collapsed, and it was accompanied by related actions such as Democrats opposing additional Pentagon funding for the war and the administration imposing new tariffs amid rising oil prices.
