Ukrainian drones strike Wildberries warehouse in Volgograd, adding to series of attacks
Ukrainian drones struck a Wildberries logistics hub and an energy facility in the Volgograd region on 31 July, killing a woman and injuring several people, the Moscow Times reported. Earlier attacks began on 18 July when Ukrainian forces hit two Wildberries logistics centres, killing eight and causing billions of rubles in losses, Meduza said. Subsequent strikes hit four centres, including sites in Moscow and the St. Petersburg region, causing fires, dozens of casualties and prompting Moscow to claim the facilities supplied the military, AP News reported.
Ukrainian drones intensified the campaign, targeting additional warehouses in Tambov, Penza, Udmurtia and Volgograd, with at least six deaths in the St. Petersburg and Kirov attacks, according to the Moscow Times. Wildberries responded by pledging compensation to affected employees, removing military-related items from its search results, and seeking roughly 100,000 square metres of warehouse space in Kazakhstan, as reported by Forbes, the Kyiv Independent and United24 Media. Sellers have filed claims for compensation and Russian authorities are considering new protection measures, Meduza noted.
