Sony and Alamo Drafthouse to Restore Hollywood’s Cinerama Dome
Deadline reported that Sony Pictures Entertainment was negotiating a lease with Robertson Property Group to revive the dormant Cinerama Dome and the former Arclight cinema complex in Hollywood. The plan involved bringing its Alamo Drafthouse chain into the venues. Later, Deadline said the companies signed a long-term lease and announced plans to restore and reopen the Cinerama Dome and the adjacent former Arclight venue under Alamo Drafthouse management, with renovation work slated to finish in the near future.
Variety reported that Sony will renovate the historic dome and multiplex, and the Los Angeles Times repeated that the renovation and reopening are scheduled for the near future. The restored facilities are expected to become part of Alamo Drafthouse’s programming of independent films. The project is presented as a step toward preserving Los Angeles’s cinema heritage.
