Trump-backed Republicans Win Arizona Gubernatorial and Congressional Primaries
Trump-endorsed Republican candidates won Arizona’s Republican primary contests for governor, secretary of state and two competitive congressional districts, NPR reported. Earlier, CBS News noted that the primaries would determine the GOP nominee to challenge Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs, with Rep. Andy Biggs emerging as the front-runner for the gubernatorial race. CNN later described Biggs as positioning himself as a conventional conservative, contrasting with previous MAGA-aligned nominees.
NBC News added that Trump-backed contenders were leading the primary battles in the state as the Iran conflict entered a phase of heightened uncertainty. When the votes were tallied, CNN’s Decision Desk projected Biggs to secure the Republican nomination for governor, a result confirmed by The Guardian, which reported his victory in the primary. NPR said the same day that the party also clinched nominations for secretary of state and the 1st and 2nd congressional districts, setting up closely watched general-election contests.
