Five Adults Drown in Ohio River Rescue Attempt, Pastor Claims Photo
Sheriff Jeff Balzer of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office said five adults drowned in the Scioto River near Powell, Ohio, after a rescue attempt turned fatal, AP News reported. The group had entered the water to aid a swimmer who was struggling, according to authorities. Several rescuers also jumped in, but the current proved too strong and all five victims were pulled under. First responders recovered the bodies from the river and began the identification process.
Later, a Columbus pastor who was at the Scioto Fishing Area near Riverside Drive said he photographed the five adults wading before they went under. He told investigators that the picture could be the last visual record of the victims, AP News added. Authorities continue to identify the deceased while reviewing the pastor’s image as part of the investigation.
