Mayor Mamdani's arrest proposal triggers backlash from Trump, Netanyahu and others
Milwaukee Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma mocked New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s call to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing the mayor’s remarks as performative. Mamdani had earlier said the city was consulting its law department and reviewing legal options to detain Netanyahu if he attended the United Nations General Assembly, citing an International Criminal Court warrant. President Donald Trump later said Netanyahu would not be arrested in the United States, and the mayor subsequently acknowledged that New York City lacks the authority to enforce the ICC warrant, urging federal officials to act.
Israel’s prime minister’s office accused Mamdani of politicising the warrant, while Prime Minister Netanyahu condemned the mayor’s comments and announced he would still address the UN meeting. Senator Tommy Tuberville also called for Mamdani’s detention, citing the mayor’s labeling of Netanyahu as an architect of genocide.
