Father and Son Indicted for Kidnapping Forest Service Biologists in California
Joseph Henrichsen and his son Phoenix were arrested after holding two U. S. Forest Service biologists hostage near Gumboot Lake in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. The New York Post reported that the biologists were confined in a trailer for roughly 15 hours before FBI negotiators secured their release. The Guardian said the pair were taken into custody shortly after the hostages were freed.
Reports varied on the length of the ordeal, with the Guardian citing more than 12 hours, SFGATE noting nearly 15 hours, and the Los Angeles Times stating over 17 hours. Federal prosecutors later indicted the men on kidnapping charges, as detailed by ABC News and NBC News. U. S. Attorney Eric Grant announced the indictment, noting that the victims were federal employees.
