State Officials Challenge Trump Administration’s Election Interference Claims
President Donald Trump presented a collection of declassified reports asserting that China had harvested public voter registration data and that non-citizen registrations were widespread, and the White House uploaded the documents online. BBC reported that a review of recently released intelligence files found no proof that foreign interference or fraud altered past U. S. election outcomes, noting only modest vulnerabilities in voter data and voting machines.
The Associated Press also found no evidence of voter fraud or foreign interference in the previous presidential election. FactCheck. org said the speech offered no new evidence of fraud or security failures, and The Guardian noted that the administration used the allegations to justify new voting measures such as the Save America Act. State election officials from 37 states later said the data provided by the president and the Department of Homeland Security showed little new evidence, and many questioned its accuracy ahead of the midterms, CNN reported.
