Bryson DeChambeau penalized two strokes after rules dispute at Open Championship

Resumen

Bryson DeChambeau was docked two shots for a potential rules breach, dropping from second place to a tie for fifth, while Lucas Herbert and Sam Burns each posted 62s to share the lead after round two of the Open.

Bryson DeChambeau’s round-two score at the Open Championship was reduced by two strokes after officials ruled he had improved his lie on the fifth hole. The American had birdied the 18th to reach 7-under before being notified of the possible infraction, which stemmed from his ball landing in tall grass and allegedly being moved while walking through it. After a ten-minute review, officials imposed the penalty, moving DeChambeau from second place to a tie for fifth at 5-under.

Australian Lucas Herbert posted a 62, matching the lowest nine-hole round in Open history with a 6-under front nine and finishing at 8-under overall, giving him a two-stroke lead. Fellow competitor Sam Burns also recorded a 62, finishing three strokes behind the leader. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler carded a 68 to sit at 4-under.

The penalty also altered the projected final-day pairings, with Herbert now set to play alongside Jackson Suber instead of DeChambeau.
