Blue Angels pilot admits miscalculation; officials pledge continued low-altitude flyovers
The U. S. Navy Blue Angels performed a low-altitude flyover over Pensacola Beach, after which the pilot later acknowledged the maneuver was miscalculated. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Navy would keep conducting such low-altitude demonstrations to boost morale, according to a Forbes report.
Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao announced that the pilots involved would not face disciplinary action, also reported by Forbes. Hegseth reiterated his support for the flyovers while a safety review was under way, AP News noted. The Navy later confirmed the pass was unsafe and the pilot admitted the miscalculation, and senior officials said no disciplinary measures would be taken, The Independent reported. Forbes echoed the Navy’s statement that no reprimand would be imposed.
