An intruder entered a restricted area of NBC's Today studio in Rockefeller Center, was detained by security and arrested, and host Craig Melvin confirmed he was unharmed.

Today anchor Craig Melvin told viewers on Friday that he was "safe and sound" after an individual breached a restricted vestibule near Studio 1A at the network's Rockefeller Center headquarters on Thursday. Melvin said the person was quickly apprehended and placed under arrest, and that the show is cooperating fully with the New York Police Department's investigation.

"You may have heard that an intruder made his way into an unauthorized area here in Studio 1A. Thankfully, he was apprehended quickly. He was placed under arrest. We are cooperating fully with the NYPD as they investigate the matter, and we are just very happy that everyone is safe."

NBC released a statement confirming that the suspect approached Melvin, who alerted security, and that there was no altercation or injuries. The individual was detained and taken into custody without further incident. The network said it is reviewing security protocols and remains committed to a safe environment for staff and guests.

Police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Andrew Truelove, who was charged with burglary, menacing, criminal trespass and harassment, all classified as hate crimes. Media reports note Truelove has a history of homelessness and mental-health challenges, including PTSD and bipolar disorder, and has previously been convicted for theft of memorial signs related to the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting.
