Intruder arrested after confronting NBC’s Craig Melvin at Today studio
NBC anchor Craig Melvin was confronted by a man who entered a restricted area of the Today studio at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York, leading to the intruder’s arrest. According to Fox News, the individual breached security and approached Melvin while shouting a racial slur. NBC News identified the suspect as 41-year-old Andrew Truelove and said police detained him without injury to anyone. The New York Times reported that Melvin intervened and that the man was later charged with burglary, menacing, criminal trespass and hate-crime enhancements. AP News added that court records reveal Truelove has a criminal history spanning more than two decades, including kidnapping and trespassing convictions. Following the incident, Melvin announced he would step away from his duties on Today and the Third Hour, a move reported by Yahoo.
Former U. S. soccer player Taylor Twellman was named as a temporary fill-in, according to the same source. After a brief family leave, Melvin returned to the broadcast, with Vulture noting that co-anchor Savannah Guthrie resumed her role and the show returned to normal. The network said the studio’s security protocols would be reviewed, though the articles did not detail further actions.
