Troy Jackson Secures Maine Democratic Senate Nomination at Delegate Convention
Maine Democrats selected former state Senate president Troy Jackson as their nominee for the U. S. Senate at a delegate convention in Bangor.
The decision came after original candidate Graham Platner withdrew amid sexual-assault allegations, prompting a crowded field of hopefuls. Jackson had already secured the overwhelming majority of county delegate slots – about 94% in the first round – and Secretary of State Shenna Bellows withdrew from the race to focus on her duties. Other contenders, including former health official Nirav Shah, had been competing for the nomination throughout the weeks leading up to the convention.
