R. Kelly's lawyer files petition for Trump commutation
R&B singer R. Kelly, through his attorney Beau Brindley, filed a formal request with the White House Office of the Pardon Attorney asking President Donald Trump to commute his 30-year federal prison sentence. Variety reported that the petition remained pending with the Office of the Pardon Attorney.
Yahoo added that the filing coincided with a separate emergency motion for release that was denied. USA Today later reported that the clemency request sought to reduce a combined 31-year federal term. Rolling Stone reiterated that the request was still pending with the White House office.
