FDA declares Taylor Farms lettuce test false positive amid Cyclospora outbreak
The U. S. Food and Drug Administration said a laboratory test that had previously linked shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms to a multistate Cyclospora outbreak was a false positive, and that no confirmed positive product samples have been found.
Earlier, the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had traced the outbreak to the lettuce, prompting Taco Bell to suspend the ingredient at its restaurants and leading Taylor Farms to issue voluntary recalls covering shipments to 27 states. The CDC later added four additional states, bringing the outbreak to nine states and reporting thousands of infections across the United States.
