Second U.S. Aid Worker with Ebola Sent to Germany for Treatment
The U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that an American humanitarian worker employed by a relief organization tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The agency said the infection occurred amid a rapidly expanding outbreak that remains largely confined to remote regions of the DRC and neighboring Uganda. It announced that contact tracing was being coordinated with Congolese health authorities.
The 60-year-old worker was flown to a specialized facility in Frankfurt, Germany, for treatment, according to Ars Technica. U. S. officials were criticized for not arranging repatriation of infected citizens. The case marked the second American aid worker known to have contracted the Bundibugyo strain.
