Bus collision with 12 vehicles injures up to 33 in Pikesville
A Maryland Transit Administration bus collided with multiple vehicles on Reisterstown Road, leaving as many as 33 people injured and two trapped, prompting a mass-casualty response.
Emergency crews responded around 5:48 p.m. Wednesday to a crash involving a Maryland Transit Administration bus and 12 other vehicles in the 1500 block of Reisterstown Road in Pikesville. Authorities declared a mass-casualty incident, dispatching 15 ambulances, Medevac helicopters and the Shock Trauma GoTeam, with additional medical units arriving from Howard and Anne Arundel counties.
Fire officials reported that one person was trapped inside the bus and another in a car; a Medevac helicopter transported a critically injured patient to a hospital. All injured were taken to medical facilities by 7:18 p.m.
The Maryland State Highway Administration closed Reisterstown Road in both directions between Old Court Road and Sudbrook Lane while investigators assess the scene and the structural integrity of nearby buildings. One vehicle overturned onto its roof on the sidewalk, and several others sustained serious damage. Baltimore Gas and Electric crews addressed a downed utility pole, noting no service interruptions.
"Our hearts are with everyone affected by tonight's multi-vehicle crash in Pikesville. I want to thank our fire, EMS, and police crews for their swift response and care to those injured," said Baltimore County Executive Kathy Klausmeier.
"My administration is closely monitoring the situation following the multi-vehicle crash involving an MTA bus in Baltimore County. We are deeply grateful for our first responders who acted with speed and skill," said Governor Wes Moore.
