Apple negotiates RAM supply with Chinese firms on U.S. blacklist

Apple is negotiating with ChangXin Memory Technologies and Yangtze Memory Technologies to source RAM for its products sold in China, according to 9to5Mac. Both firms appear on a Pentagon blacklist that limits certain technology transactions with U. S. entities, the report said.

The talks arise amid a worldwide memory shortage that has pushed component prices higher. Apple is looking to secure chips from the Chinese suppliers to offset the shortage and keep device production on schedule. The negotiations illustrate the company’s strategy to diversify its component sources despite the restrictions imposed by the blacklist.
