Model Nara Smith Reveals Daughter's Cancer Diagnosis and Ongoing Treatment
Nara Smith disclosed that her two-year-old daughter was diagnosed with cancer last year and is now undergoing chemotherapy, while she balances postpartum recovery, three other children and professional projects.
Model Nara Smith posted a video on social media describing how her two-year-old daughter, Whimsy, was diagnosed with cancer late last year after visits to an emergency department, a pediatrician and a children's hospital. Doctors informed the family that the disease had spread and that chemotherapy needed to begin immediately.
Smith said she is coping with postpartum recovery, caring for three other children—Rumble, Slim and Fawnie—and managing a growing career that includes a forthcoming cookbook and a film role. > "Some days are a little easier, some days are really hard, and all I can do is try my best and show up in all those areas in the best way that I can," she said.
She added that participation in online forums and conversations with other parents and hospital staff has provided comfort and reduced feelings of isolation. > "Throughout all of this, I’ve been on a plethora of forums, social media, also talked to parents and family in the hospital, and all of that combined really brought me a lot of comfort and alleviated the feeling of loneliness for me. We wanted to share this to hopefully bring someone else that comfort," Smith said.
