Giraffe Gracie Found Near Texas Ranch After Two-Week Search
A three-year-old giraffe named Gracie was located about four miles south of Cedar Hollow Ranch in Leakey, Texas, after a two-week search, AP News reported. The animal had escaped from its enclosure in early June, prompting ranch owner Vick Jones to offer a $5,000 reward for information, according to The New York Times. NBC News first reported the disappearance, describing Gracie as a 3- to 4-year-old reticulated giraffe and noting that Real County officials launched a search. KSAT added that helicopter flights were used in the effort, and the search continued nearly two weeks after the escape.
The giraffe was later spotted by a helicopter crew and confirmed alive, with ABC News saying plans were under way to capture and return it to the ranch. TODAY. com said the animal appeared healthy after the recovery.
