Second Ransom Note Claims Death of Savannah Guthrie’s Mother, Anchor Seeks Help
A ransom email sent to TMZ on Feb. 6, traced to the same IP address as earlier messages, included an apology for an alleged accidental death of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, the New York Post reported. A follow-up note received by a Tucson television station claimed that Nancy Guthrie died shortly after the abduction, investigators said, according to ABC15 Arizona.
Law enforcement officials said the second note reiterated the claim of her death, while a TMZ founder disputed the note’s content, CNN reported. The BBC noted that authorities continued to pursue the case despite the alleged death claim. Later, Savannah Guthrie publicly appealed for anyone with information to come forward after the second ransom note suggested her mother’s death, the Los Angeles Times said.
