Mars expected to launch natural-color M&M's, dropping blue and brown
Mars Corp. is expected to introduce a new line of M&M's that replaces artificial dyes with natural pigments such as beet, turmeric and spirulina. According to Newser, the company will begin selling M&M's without synthetic dyes, although a natural blue hue remains a production challenge. The New York Post reports that the launch is slated for August, initially offering four colors while blue and brown are temporarily removed pending equipment upgrades. Fox Business adds that the move responds to pressure from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F.
Kennedy Jr. , and that sourcing a natural blue color is costly and complex. Later, Ultimate Classic Rock notes that Mars will relaunch M&M's without artificial dyes, eliminating brown and blue varieties because of high cost and technical hurdles. NewsNation says the brand will discontinue blue and brown candies as it introduces a dye-free line this summer, citing formulation challenges. The Takeout echoes that Mars announced the switch to natural food dyes and the dropping of blue and brown colors for the same reasons.
