Pentagon Launches Six-Month Review of U.S. Forces in Europe
U. S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced a six-month Pentagon review of U. S. forces stationed in Europe.
In remarks reported by AP, he said the review would assess the deployment of American troops and urged NATO members to assume greater responsibility for regional security. NPR later quoted Hegseth telling NATO leaders that the review’s findings would be linked to the allies’ willingness to take on more security duties. CBS reported that Hegseth highlighted concerns about allied access restrictions and shortfalls in defense spending as the review proceeds toward the NATO summit in Ankara. The Independent added that European leaders responded by noting ongoing efforts to boost defense budgets and capabilities in line with the Pentagon’s assessment.
