DOJ seeks dismissal of NAACP lawsuit over xAI gas turbines
The U. S. Department of Justice asked a federal judge in Mississippi to dismiss the NAACP’s Clean Air Act lawsuit alleging that Elon Musk’s xAI operates unpermitted mobile natural-gas turbines. Earlier, the department argued that shutting down the trailer-mounted turbines would jeopardize national, economic and energy security, countering the plaintiffs’ claims, TechCrunch reported. The Justice Department, together with the state of Mississippi, later filed a motion to intervene in the case, asserting that xAI’s Grok model is vital to U.
S. national security and should not be halted, according to Gizmodo. In its dismissal request, the DOJ reiterated those national-security and economic concerns, seeking to halt the lawsuit, Ars Technica noted. The motion, if granted, would effectively end the NAACP’s effort to block the turbines’ operation.
