Civil Jury Awards $176 Million in Hit-and-Run Case Involving Rebecca Grossman and Scott Erickson

सारांश

A Los Angeles jury has found Rebecca Grossman and former MLB pitcher Scott Erickson liable for negligence in the deaths of two young brothers, awarding the victims' family $176 million.

A civil jury in Los Angeles has ruled that Rebecca Grossman and Scott Erickson were negligent in the deaths of two young brothers, awarding their family $176 million. The jury concluded that Grossman and Erickson acted with malice, as Grossman has been serving a 15-year sentence for the murders of 11-year-old Mark Iskander and 8-year-old Jacob Iskander, who were killed in a hit-and-run incident.

On the evening of September 29, 2020, Grossman, driving a Mercedes at more than 80 miles per hour, struck the boys in a designated crosswalk. Reports indicate she had accelerated just before the incident, suggesting she was attempting to catch up to Erickson, who was in a separate vehicle. Witnesses described the driving behavior as erratic.

Grossman was convicted of double murder and related charges in February 2024, and her appeal was denied earlier this year. Erickson, initially facing a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving, had the charge dismissed after fulfilling a public service obligation regarding safe driving.

After her sentencing, Grossman expressed regret, stating she did not see the boys before the collision. “There is nothing, nothing that any human being can say that can make things better,” remarked Mr. Iskander, the boys' father, during the recent court proceedings.
